Book Review: Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

Once upon a time,an angel and a devil pressed their hands to their hearts and started the the apocalypse

When I started reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters I though it was one of these series where it would start out great but then die down over the series. But I actually loved this one! So much better than Days of Blood and Starlight.

Synopsis

Two worlds are poised on the brink of a vicious war. By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera’s rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her.

When the brutal angel emperor brings his army to the human world, Karou and Akiva are finally reunited – not in love, but in a tentative alliance against their common enemy. It is a twisted version of their long-ago dream, and they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people. And, perhaps, for themselves.

But with even bigger threats on the horizon, are Karou and Akiva strong enough to stand among the gods and monsters?

I give Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor five out of five hearts because I loved it and thought it was better than the previous novel in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. I really felt like this series had gotten into a slump during Days of Blood and Starlight, but this novel completely made up for it.

Karou and Akiva are sort of together but also not. And this makes in interesting to see how they deal with each other. I do feel like I missed how the Karou forgave Akiva, because to me, what he has done is unforgivable.

But I really liked what Karou does with what she ended up in at the end of the last novel. And we get so see a lot of the characters that I thought would not come back to the series anymore. Like Zuzana and others, I thought they were great.

Laini is good with words, I feel like I am sucked into this world that Kura lived in. This is what I already experience during the first novel and during most of the second one too, I just liked it less.

I think Dreams of Gods and Monsters is a great end and conclusion to the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, because it is so well written! Reading such a great conclusion makes me want to read the rest of Laini’s works and I hope it won’t take long for me to get my hands on Strange the Dreamer.
