Book Review: House of M by Brian Michael Bendis

The only Marvel properties I have ever read are Dark X-Men, The Runaways and Supreme Power. I think the House of M storyline is one of the best Marvel things I have ever read. I enjoyed it a lot and want to read more like this.

Synopsis

The Avengers and the X-Men are faced with a common foe that becomes their greatest threat: Wanda Maximoff! The Scarlet Witch is out of control, and the fate of the entire world is in her hands. Will Magneto help his daughter or use her powers to his own benefit?

I give House of M by Brian Michael Bendis four out of five hearts, because I liked it. But it did have it down sides.

The comic starts out with a what happened before for both the Avengers and X-men, it helps the reader catch up with what events lead to the story. I do not read the lose comics and so did not know what had happened before. It did made me feel like the events were too important to the story to not be included in the comic. It was a thing I really missed in this bundle.

The storyline is very interesting, because The Scarlet Witch does her best to give everyone what they wanted and it shows she actually cares about her friends.

Because the characters were already pre-established I had a hard time relating to them, I wonder whether it would have helped if I had read all the comics in the House of M storyline. But on the other hand I think I would have read every Marvel comic to understand every character, which in a way is sort of sad.

I liked the art style though, the lines felt really crisp and all the images were really vibrant. A great use of colour, which made it a pretty comic. The dialogue was good, short and clear.

Overall I think it is a pretty comic, well written and good characters. The reason I gave it only four hearts has to do with the fact that I had a hard time completely relating to the characters because I had not read anything that came before this storyline.
