Book Review: In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken

It rained the day they brought us to Thurmond. And it rained the day I walked out

I am glad this series is finally over. I did not like the series and I had to talk myself into reading this one.

Book Review: In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken

Rating:

Title & Author: In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken
Genre: Dystopia, Adventure
Release Date: October 28 2010
Series: The Darkest Minds
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Synopsis

Ruby can’t look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government’s attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. With them is a prisoner: Clancy Gray, son of the president, and one of the few people Ruby has encountered with abilities like hers. Only Ruby has any power over him, and just one slip could lead to Clancy wreaking havoc on their minds.

They are armed only with a volatile secret: proof of a government conspiracy to cover up the real cause of IAAN, the disease that has killed most of America’s children and left Ruby and others like her with powers the government will kill to keep contained. But internal strife may destroy their only chance to free the “rehabilitation camps” housing thousands of other Psi kids.

Meanwhile, reunited with Liam, the boy she would-and did-sacrifice everything for to keep alive, Ruby must face the painful repercussions of having tampered with his memories of her. She turns to Cole, his older brother, to provide the intense training she knows she will need to take down Gray and the government. But Cole has demons of his own, and one fatal mistake may be the spark that sets the world on fire.

I give In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken two out of five hearts. Because I found it is the weakest part in The Darkest Minds series and the entire series I do not like.

The plot is slow and it took forever to get anywhere. The characters spend their time being scared and doing nothing and one would think they would have learned before this.

Ruby is very whiny and just becomes worse than Bella from Twilight. She keeps flinging between two mental stages, she is a monster and she is a god. I hated her for this. She is also way too stubborn for a good characters, for example she is hurt real bad in Thurmond but has to walk out of there. How can she even still walk? She has problems with her memory and stuff due to stress and such, but during the other two novels she did not have these issues, how can they have developed in this short amount of time?

Overall I think this novel is the worst in the series even going worse than Twilight. I did not like it and will not read this series ever again.
