Book Review: The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan

Don’t feel bad, I’m usually about to die

With only one book left, I am very happy I am almost finished with this series. I started this series hesitantly, but my mood for this series has been going down and is getting below series. Here is why.

Synopsis

Percy Jackson isn’t expecting freshman orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears on campus, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.
In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos’s army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop the invasion, Percy and his demigod friends must set out on a quest through the Labyrinth – a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn.

This is the second book in a row where (to me) the main characters just don’t grow. They just go on and hope the thing they they tried last book, still works. The only person that grew during this book was Nico, who has been looking for a way to get his sister back and in the end learned how to deal with her death.

What I was amazed by mostly was Percy’s mother. She just accepts it when her son just disappears even though his life is always in danger. She doesn’t even tries to get in touch with Camp Half-Blood. If it was my kid, I would be more worried.

The story also does not give much. They find the labyrinth and make a run for it to prevent Luke and his gang from getting to the camp. They are still fighting Luke and his cronies and Kronos is finally awakened, which is the only significant thing that happened and he does nothing more then this.

I am still going to read The Last Olympians, but I will not read anything more around this universe.
