Then I discovered that being related is no guarantee of love!

I have read this book years ago and loved it. Now I read it again for a Nordic Noir book and loved it again.

Synopsis

A murder mystery, family saga, love story, and a tale of financial intrigue wrapped into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel. Harriet Vanger, scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families, disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

I give The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson five out of five hearts because I love it. The story and characters are great so what would I want more?

Lisbeth Salander is a very interesting character, she is a real rebel, doing only what she wants and takes the jobs she wants. She is smart and has a horrible past, which we get to know a bit about over the course of this book.

Mikael Blomkvist is a disgraced journalist and he picks up the investigation of Harriet Vanger to stay a little under the radar. He is caring and he thinks it is important to be real.

The story is a little of a slow burn, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Each chapter a little bit of information is revealed until in the end, it all comes together in a surprising twist and a spectacular ending.

Overall I loved the story, I wish it was less of a slow burn, but it was great none the less.
