On My Shelf #7

On My Shelf

On My Shelf is an original feature inspired by the On My Shelf tag. Each time I will take 5 random books from my shelves and tell you about them (how I got them, what I think of them etc.), and if they are in Dutch I will write a small synopsis of them.
I will roll some dice to find out which books it will be.

Kinderen van Moeder Aarde (Thule #1) by Thea Beckman

It is six eons after the Third World War. The earth has shifted due to the nuclearwar and is almost destroyed. The ice on, what used to be Greenland there is now, Thule has melted and the country has an amazing climate. The people live in harmony with nature. The country is ruled by wwimen, without an army, without weapons.. Christian is the only child of the Konega of Thule, who, together with the Women’s council, rule Thule. One they he meets Thura, a normal girl, daughter of a fishing boat builder, and in training to become a sailor, and he can’t forget her.
Then an unknown ship appears in the fjord, from the Baden Kingdom; the sailors only goal to conquer Thule, like they havee already done to Europe. When they gain the knowledge that the country does not have any weapons and is ruled by women, they are convinced they will win without trouble. But to them, the owners of weapons and technologies the people of Thule doe not know, they meet unexpected resistance, in chich Christian and Thura play an important role.

I love this book. I got it as a present from my mom years ago. I wanted it because I had read more by Thea Beckman and loved those, but this one also has a very beautiful painted cover. The story feels like a warning to the modern world.

The Summoning (Darkest Power #1) by Kelley Armstrong

I bought this book because I was looking for a supernatural book and did not know what to get myself. I like thee story, but do not think it is a great one. It is more original at some points then most.

The Planet of the Apes (The Planet of the Apes #1) by Pierre Boulle

I bought this book just after the release of the bad reinvention of The Planet of the Apes by Tim Burton. But I like the book and I liked the original movies. I will reread it some time again.

Inferno by Dan Brown

I got this book as a present from a friend, he knew I loved the Dan Brown books and that when I was very young I read The DaVinci Code in English together with my mom (she in Dutch) and she gave up at some point, but I finished it and found my love for the books.

Wither (The Chemical Garden Trilogy #1) by Lauren DeStefano

I like this series, but never got to reading more then just the first book. I am still very curious about the rest, but I have been pushing this series for forever now… Maybe it is just not meant to be… I don’t know.

I hope you enjoy my weekly rants on my books. If you have some suggestion for me what to buy next, let me know in the comments or contact me!

For now, let books enrich your life!
