Annual End of the Year Survey 2016

Annual End of the Year Survey 2016

I saw this survey at The Daily Prophecy last year and did it. Tonight is Christmas eve and I thought it would be nice to do it again.

2016 Reading Stats

Number of books you read: Today I finished my 124th book. I might still read one or two books more this year.
Number of re-reads: I reread 24 books. I thought it would be way more, but it was not.
Genre you read the most from: This year I read the most books belonging to the catagories Fantasy and Adventure. Most of the books I read were in audiobook form and written by female authors and mostly written for young adults.

Best of Books

Best book you read in 2016? I feel a strong tie between Uprooted by Naomi Novik and A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas.
Book you were excited about & thought you were going to love more but didn’t? I think that counts for the Percy Jackson and the Last Olypmian series or Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. Especially Unravel Me because everyone said it was the better part of the Shatter Me series. But I literally had to fight with myself to finish it and hated it even more than the first novel.
Most surprising (in a good way or a bad way) book you read? It is a tie between The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Guardian of the Way by Diane Moat. I loved them even more than I hoped/expected.
Book you “pushed” the most people to read (and they did)? I told my best friend about The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. But most she had already heard of.
Best series you started in 2016? Best sequel of 2016? Best series ender of 2016?
Best series started: The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo
Best sequel: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Best series ender: Shaman of Stonewylde by Kit Berry
Favorite new author you discovered in 2016? Erin Morgenstern, she is a great author and I am looking forward to whatever she is going to write next.
Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone? The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It is a historical drama and I loved it. It is so well written, the characters are great and it does not feel that much like drama as a comical story.
Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year? Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I loved it and it took me only 2 days to finish it.
Book you read in 2016 that you are most likely to re-read next year? I have no idea yet. Probably Harry Potter again.
Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016? Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | The Screenplay by J.K. Rowling. I love the color combination and simplicity of it.
Most memorable character of 2016? Agnieszka from Uprooted by Noami Novik.
Most thought-provoking/life-changing book of 2016? The Saga comic. It feels a bit like our world today.
Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read? The Grisha trilogy! It is so well written and I like it a lot.
Favorite Passage/Quote from a book you read in 2016? A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies by George R.R. Martin.
Shortest & longest book you read in 2016? According to ‘My year in books’ on Goodreads:
Shortest: The Assassin and the Healer by Sarah J. Maas.
Longest: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
Book that shocked you the most? The End by Lemony Snicket. One would think a series would end on a high note, but this one is very mixed at the very end.
OTP (One True Pairing) of the year? I am not the person to answer this question, so I will not.
Favorite non-romantic relationship of the year? Alina and Mal from The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo.
Favorite book you read in 2016 from an author you’ve read previously? Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | The Screenplay by J.K. Rowling
Best book you read in 2016 that you read based solely on a recommendation from somebody else/peer pressure? I think there were no real recommendation this year. The only one that got recommended to me was Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas but I was already reading it at the time.
Best 2016 debut you read? It is not really a debut made in 2016, but more a debut novel I read during 2016. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
Best worldbuilding/most vivid setting you read this year? The Grisha series by Leigh Bardugo.
Book that put a smile on your face was the most FUN to read? Rat Queens comics by Kurtis J. Wiebe
Book that made you cry or nearly cry in 2016? I don’t cry from books, so I don’t have an answer to this one.
Hidden gem of the year? The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
Book that crushed your soul? Depends on how this question is ment. I really hated The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. It just went from bad to worse and found it was a waste of my time. Same goes for the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.
Most unique book you read in 2016 Thing Explainer by Randall Munroe
Book that made you the most mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)? The Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard

I only finished my Goodreads Reading Challenge, which was reading 70 books and I read 124 (as of right now). And do not think I will be able to finish any other challenges I wanted to do this year.
