Book Review: Assassin’s Creed – The Fall & The Chain by Brenden Fletscher

Assassin’s Creed

I have always really liked playing the Assassin’s Creed games and so of course I have to read the comics that accompany it.

Synopsis

ASSASSIN’S CREED: THE FALL follows 19th century Russian assassin Nikolai Orelov as he strives to claim an artifact of immense power from the hands of the Templars, leading to a climactic and violent showdown with the ruthless Tsar Alexander III aboard a speeding train.

Meanwhile, in modern times, a troubled young drifter copes with unsettling visions of a possible past life – visions that have irreversible consequences for the present.

ASSASSIN’S CREED: THE CHAIN completes the Daniel Cross/Nikolai Orelov narrative arc, but it also sheds a new light on ASSASSIN’S CREED III.

I gave Assassin’s Creed: The Fall & The Chain 3 Hearts out of 5. I thought it lacked so depth, but mostly it was fine. I enjoyed having a new character and a new assassin.

I loved the depth of Nikolai Orelov, through out both comics. He is a man that gets torn apart by his job. So much so, he leaves Russia for America. I really felt for him as you see his story fold out during The Chain.

The story of Daniel Cross is a shocking one, so I am not going to say much about it. In a way I did like his story, but I also thought it was a bit predicable, which bothered me a bit. And after the end of The Fall, his story does not really improve much, where as Nikolai’s story improves.

Overall these two novels are okay and not bad reads, for me they were just lacking a bit. The comics are beautifully drawn and The Chain also has some stuff about the “third” Assassin’s Creed game in it.
