On My Shelf is an original feature inspired by the On My Shelf tag. Each time I will take 5 random books from my shelves and tell you about them (how I got them, what I think of them etc.), and if they are in Dutch I will write a small synopsis of them.
I will roll some dice to find out which books it will be.
The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events #1) by Lemony Snicket
I had heard good things about A Series of Unfortunate Events and want to read what the movie (2004) on this book was about. First I read the first book, then watched the movie, which included the first three books (which I did not know). I liked both, I just love how Jim Carrey transforms himself for all the roles. The movie was very funny, but the book was even better, although a bit short (luckily there are more books).
Dark Visions trilogy by L.J. Smith
I bought this book after I first read The Vampire Diaries and ran out of books on my holiday in Italia. I bought all three book in one cover. It is not too big and I read it during the days afterwards. I liked it, but like The Vampire Diaries I did not like it as much the second time around (I never finished it the second time).
A History of Anthropology by Thomas Hyllland Eriksen and Finn Sivert Nielsen
I bought this book at a second hand bookstore, but I never read it. Because I thought it was something else then social and cultural anthropology (I forgot to read the back before buying it).
Greece – Athens & The Mainland by Eyewitness Travel
I got this book when I finished my internship at a marine research center in Athens, Greece in 2010/2011. I flipped through it before I left, but since I got it on my last day working there and I left 3 days later, I could not do anything with it seriously with it. I have not felt the need to go back there since Athens is still known to have a lot of problems, more than back then. It is nice to read about all the things I have seen in the city when I was there, but overall it does not give me much when reading it.
A Judgement in Stone by Ruth Rendell
I got this book when I was finishing my first year of high school from a friend of a friend. She had read it for her exams and I was bored, waiting on friends to finish their exams, when she handed it to me to have something to do. She apologiesed because she had written in it (translations to difficult words). Since I was just finishing my first year of school English, I did not mind, but in the end did not need any of it.
