Synopsis

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

I give Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff five out of five heart because it was an amazing book! This novel is written in such an interesting way, I’ve seen the method being used more and more these days (like Everything Everything), but here it is done so much better! It makes me want to hurry of the second novel in The Illuminae Files, Gemina!

Before I started I knew it was going to be amazing, I had heard great things for this novel and I hoped, even though it had been a couple of months since I last heard about this one, it would not turn out to be a huge funk, like Shatter Me or the Shades of Magic series.

But is impressed me and made me want to become a well a write as Amie and Jay! Are they on their own still as amazing, I wonder! The book is written in emails, audio transcripts, images, IMs and many more kinds of texts and this makes it so much more immersive! I wonder how the story would have turned out if this story was written in a normal fashion, but I can’t even imagine it. It is literally written as the a set of files.

The characters feel so read, because you live through the story with them. Kady and Ezra’s struggle with their losses and the want to be together is almost tangible!

Kady is so ready to fight and to be the one to save people, I would almost send her to the doctor to discuss her issues! Usually these are characteristics I hate in story character, because it seems faked, but with Kady it feels different.

She and Ezra have such great humor and sarcasm, unlike Aidan, but he was also very funny, for us, as humans! Aidan made me feel for him, even though he is one of the villains of the book! He works so hard to be understood by the stupid humans. But he is also very adorable.

The book is beautiful and I am definitely going reread it as an audiobook, because a lot of people also suggest to do that. I actually thought it could never be as great as the book, because of all the visuals in the novel. But first I am going to score Gemina to move on with my lust for the great series! I need more Illuminae Files!
