Book Releases December 2017
I finished NaNoWriMo ten days ago and am still writing a little everyday (not as much as during the rest of the month). And I want to keep that going. But these novels I also want to get my hands on this month.
Ever the Brave (A Clash of Kingdoms #2) – Erin Summerill
Persepolis Rising (The Expanse #7) – James S.A. Corey
Prince in Disguise – Stephanie Kate Strohm
Shadow Girl – Liana Liu
Three Sides of the Heart – Garth Nix, E.K. Johnston, Sabaa Tahir, Veronica Roth a.o.
The Young Queens (Three Dark Crowns #0.5) – Kendare Blake
Ever the Brave (A Clash of Kingdoms #2) by Erin Summerill (December 5)
Synopsis
Ever the Divided. Ever the Feared. Ever the Brave.
After saving King Aodren with her newfound Channeler powers, Britta only wants to live a peaceful life in her childhood home. Unfortunately, saving the King has created a tether between them she cannot sever, no matter how much she’d like to, and now he’s insisting on making her a noble lady. And there are those who want to use Britta’s power for evil designs. If Britta cannot find a way to harness her new magical ability, her life—as well as her country—may be lost. The stakes are higher than ever in the sequel to Ever the Hunted, as Britta struggles to protect her kingdom and her heart.
I still haven’t read Ever The Hunted but I am really looking forward to what sounds a great sequel to a great novel.
Persepolis Rising (The Expanse #7) by James S.A. Corey (December 5)
Synopsis
In the thousand-sun network of humanity’s expansion, new colony worlds are struggling to find their way. Every new planet lives on a knife edge between collapse and wonder, and the crew of the aging gunship Rocinante have their hands more than full keeping the fragile peace.
In the vast space between Earth and Jupiter, the inner planets and belt have formed a tentative and uncertain alliance still haunted by a history of wars and prejudices. On the lost colony world of Laconia, a hidden enemy has a new vision for all of humanity and the power to enforce it.
New technologies clash with old as the history of human conflict returns to its ancient patterns of war and subjugation. But human nature is not the only enemy, and the forces being unleashed have their own price. A price that will change the shape of humanity — and of the Rocinante — unexpectedly and forever…
I loved the first novel in The Expanse, Leviathan Wakes. I really need more of it in my life.
Prince in Disguise by Stephanie Kate Strohm (December 19)
Synopsis
Someday I want to live in a place where I never hear “You’re Dusty’s sister?” ever again.
Life is real enough for Dylan—especially as the ordinary younger sister of Dusty, former Miss Mississippi and the most perfect, popular girl in Tupelo. But when Dusty wins the hand of the handsome Scottish laird-to-be Ronan on the TRC television network’s crown jewel, Prince in Disguise, Dylan has to face a different kind of reality: reality TV.As the camera crew whisks them off to Scotland to film the lead-up to the wedding, camera-shy Dylan is front and center as Dusty’s maid of honor. The producers are full of surprises—including old family secrets, long-lost relatives, and a hostile future mother-in-law who thinks Dusty and Dylan’s family isn’t good enough for her only son. At least there’s Jamie, an adorably bookish groomsman who might just be the perfect antidote to all Dylan’s stress . . . if she just can keep TRC from turning her into the next reality show sensation.
I have really been into these stupid love stories. And each time I am disappointed. Hopefully this one doesn’t disappoinnt.
19. Shadow Girl by Liana Liu (December 19)
Synopsis
The house on Arrow Island is full of mystery.
Yet when Mei arrives, she can’t help feeling relieved. She’s happy to spend the summer in an actual mansion tutoring a rich man’s daughter if it means a break from her normal life—her needy mother, her delinquent brother, their tiny apartment in the city. And Ella Morison seems like an easy charge, sweet and well behaved.
What Mei doesn’t know is that something is very wrong in the Morison household.
Though she tries to focus on her duties, Mei becomes increasingly distracted by the family’s problems and her own complicated feelings for Ella’s brother, Henry. But most disturbing of all are the unexplained noises she hears at night—the howling and thumping and cries.
Mei is a sensible girl. She isn’t superstitious; she doesn’t believe in ghosts. Yet she can’t shake her fear that there is danger lurking in the shadows of this beautiful house, a darkness that could destroy the family inside and out… and Mei along with them.
This novel sounds so great! I need this.
Three Sides of the Heart by Garth Nix, E.K. Johnston, Sabaa Tahir, Veronica Roth a.o. (December 19)

A teen girl who offers kissing lessons. Zombies in the Civil War South. The girl next door, the boy who loves her, and the girl who loves them both. Vampires at a boarding school. Three teens fighting monsters in an abandoned video rental store. Literally the last three people on the planet.
What do all these stories have in common?
The love triangle.
Another romance novel, but this time short stories, so I am curious if this make it better.
The Young Queens (Three Dark Crowns #0.5) by Kendare Blake (December 26)
Synopsis
Three black witches, born to a descending queen. One would rise to become queen in her place. Perhaps the strongest of the three. Perhaps the cleverest. Or perhaps it would be the girl born under the best shield of luck.
Katharine, Arsinoe and Mirabella – three young queens born to fulfil their destiny – to fight to the death to win the crown. But before they were poisoner, elemental and naturalist, they were children, sisters and friends .
I haven’t read Three Dark Crown yet, but I still want to read this series.
