Book Releases February 2017

Time just goes so fast! Another month has past and I barely noticed or got all the books I wanted to get! Here is a new list of books I would like to get.

The Lonely Hearts Hotel – Heather O’Neill
Gilded Cage (Dark Gifts #1) – Vic James
Long May She Reign – Rhiannon Thomas
A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) – V.E. Schwab
Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1) – Tricia Levenseller

The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O’Neill (February 7)

Synopsis

An unparalleled tale of charismatic pianos, invisible dance partners, radicalized chorus girls, drug-addicted musicians, brooding clowns, and an underworld whose economy hinges on the price of a kiss. In a landscape like this, it takes great creative gifts to thwart one’s origins. It might also take true love.

Two babies are abandoned in a Montreal orphanage in the winter of 1910. Before long, their talents emerge: Pierrot is a piano prodigy; Rose lights up even the dreariest room with her dancing and comedy. As they travel around the city performing clown routines, the children fall in love with each other and dream up a plan for the most extraordinary and seductive circus show the world has ever seen.

Separated as teenagers, sent off to work as servants during the Great Depression, both descend into the city’s underworld, dabbling in sex, drugs and theft in order to survive. But when Rose and Pierrot finally reunite beneath the snowflakes after years of searching and desperate poverty the possibilities of their childhood dreams are renewed, and they’ll go to extreme lengths to make them come true. Soon, Rose, Pierrot and their troupe of clowns and chorus girls have hit New York, commanding the stage as well as the alleys, and neither the theater nor the underworld will ever look the same.

I love the cover of The Lonely Hearts Hotel, but it is also being compared with The Night Circus pulled me in. I loved The Night Circus and would not mind to read a novel like it again!

Gilded Cage (Dark Gifts #1) by Vic James (February 14)

Synopsis

Not all are free. Not all are equal. Not all will be saved.

Our world belongs to the Equals — aristocrats with magical gifts — and all commoners must serve them for ten years. But behind the gates of England’s grandest estate lies a power that could break the world.

A girl thirsts for love and knowledge.

Abi is a servant to England’s most powerful family, but her spirit is free. So when she falls for one of the noble-born sons, Abi faces a terrible choice. Uncovering the family’s secrets might win her liberty, but will her heart pay the price?

A boy dreams of revolution.

Abi’s brother, Luke, is enslaved in a brutal factory town. Far from his family and cruelly oppressed, he makes friends whose ideals could cost him everything. Now Luke has discovered there may be a power even greater than magic: revolution.

And an aristocrat will remake the world with his dark gifts.

He is a shadow in the glittering world of the Equals, with mysterious powers no one else understands. But will he liberate—or destroy?

Already the titel of this novel and the name of the series made me want to read Gilded Cage by Vic James. Also the synopsis sound very interesting and I hope it will be too.

Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas (February 21)

Synopsis

Freya was never meant be queen. Twenty third in line to the throne, she never dreamed of a life in the palace, and would much rather research in her laboratory than participate in the intrigues of court. However, when an extravagant banquet turns deadly and the king and those closest to him are poisoned, Freya suddenly finds herself on the throne.

Freya may have escaped the massacre, but she is far from safe. The nobles don’t respect her, her councillors want to control her, and with the mystery of who killed the king still unsolved, Freya knows that a single mistake could cost her the kingdom – and her life.

Freya is determined to survive, and that means uncovering the murderers herself. Until then, she can’t trust anyone. Not her advisors. Not the king’s dashing and enigmatic illegitimate son. Not even her own father, who always wanted the best for her, but also wanted more power for himself.

As Freya’s enemies close in and her loyalties are tested, she must decide if she is ready to rule and, if so, how far she is willing to go to keep the crown.

Long May She Reign has been on my looking-forward-to-list for a very long time, basicly since anything came out about it. The first line of the synopsis pulled me even further.

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by V.E. Schwab (February 21)

Synopsis

London’s fall and kingdoms rise while darkness sweeps the Maresh Empire—and the fraught balance of magic blossoms into dangerous territory while heroes and foes struggle alike. The direct sequel to A Gathering of Shadows, and the final book in the Shades of Magic epic fantasy series, A Conjuring of Light sees Schwab reach a thrilling culmination concerning the fate of beloved protagonists—and old enemies.

I need an end to this trilogy so I am glad it is finally here. My reviews for the first two novels will be up some time in the near futher.

Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King #1) by Tricia Levenseller (February 28)

Synopsis

A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling YA adventure.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Daughter of the Pirate King is a debutnovel, but I do think it has potential. I hope the novel itself will be as interesting as the synopsis.

    • I enjoyed the first one, I gave it four stars on Goodreads, but A Gathering of Shadows not so much. I am hoping A Conjuring of Light will have been worth my struggle with the second novel.
