Book Review: Prodigy by Marie Lu

Everything I am familiar with is gone

Now I remember why I did not like this series that much. It feels a lot like Divergent as in it has 2 good/okay books, but the third one I don’t like. I already feel a hate towards Champion just by the events at the end of Prodigy by Marie Lu.

Synopsis

njured and on the run, it has been seven days since June and Day barely escaped Los Angeles and the Republic with their lives. Day is believed dead having lost his own brother to an execution squad who thought they were assassinating him. June is now the Republic’s most wanted traitor. Desperate for help, they turn to the Patriots – a vigilante rebel group sworn to bring down the Republic. But can they trust them or have they unwittingly become pawns in the most terrifying of political games?

I gave Prodigy by Marie Lu three out of five hearts. It wasn’t as great as Legend and I felt a lot like I was reading a variation on Legend instead of something new.

You don’t really get to know many new characters, except for Razor and even though Day and June went to a completely different city, a lot of the minor characters from Legend are there too, which made it sound to me a bit too easy.

From the first moment one I did not like Razer and he is supposed to be someone high in the military, but mostly come across as a lazy brat in a convenient place so the story can work out.

The rest of the character don’t make much growth. Tess’ love for Day was pretty visible in Legend already, so I wasn’t surprised when that came out during this novel. And Day and June’s affection for each other was also visible during Legend.

The story felt very similar to Legend. They find people of who they believe something and then it turns out they are helping the enemy. And it was so visible it bothered me a lot.

I already know I will not like Champion by Marie Lu, but I will try and read it again. Hopefully it is not as bad as I am imagining it right now.
