Book Review: The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

My brother broke into a toothy grin. “Yay! Your brain works!”

I was really torn after reading Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian, I had great parts I did not like and parts I did like. Figuring out how many stars I was going to give to this book was pretty hard because of it.

Synopsis

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Kronos’s army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan’s power only grows. While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. Now it’s up to Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods to stop the Lord of Time.

In this momentous final book in the New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy’s sixteenth birthday unfolds. And as the battle for Western civilization rages on the streets of Manhattan, Percy faces a terrifying suspicion that he may be fighting against his own fate.

I give Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian four out of five stars because I think it deserves a three and a half, but not a three. The parts I liked did really amuse me and the parts I did not like where not too bothersome. So still four stars even though I am not convinced by this book(series).

Overall I found the book very long for what especially happens. The last half of the book consists of the big fight against Kronos. And it also started in the middle of things even though I remember things not like it before. Like Percy and Rachel going on dates.

I did like Hestia is the Last Olympian. When I started reading I was worried the book would turn all dramatic and kill all the gods off or something and have one left. But it did not. I would have been very annoyed with Rick Riordan if he had.

Percy is still the same Seaweed Brain as ever. I still do not like him all that much. I think he is dumb and doing stupid things. He always feels like has to protect everyone, even though some can actually fend for themselves. He also cannot make up his mind about who is his girlfriend, he is dating Rachel, but does not want to move on with her because of Annabeth. Only in the last few chapters he makes up his mind, because he is forced to.

My favorite character of the series has to be Rachel Dare, she is kick ass, can fend for herself but is not completely screaming it of the roofs. I also like she is not just Percy’s girlfriend anymore during this book, but actually gets to play a part in the resolution to this story.

Overall I am very happy I finally finished this book-series. It is not my favorite and I also cannot see why it is so hyped by a lot of people. But now I can check it of my list of books people are suggesting to me.
