Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

I promise, I will not let you die without being kissed.

I still really like the Lunar Chronicles. Each book has a different flair and new great characters. Another great book by Marissa Meyer. The third novel in this series is called Cress and I love it.

Synopsis

Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

So, another book of the Lunar Chronicles done. And I still love it. The series is so well done, I really don’t know how to describe it.

This book brought a few more characters to the cast, mostly Cress. And I finally got an answer to why cyborgs are so hated. It did not really satisfy but I accept it.

Cress – Rapunzel – is a very ‘innocent’ character, she has not had much contact with other people then the Lunar thaumaturge Sybil Mira. Her innocence is really clear from how she reacts to most things on Earth. To it made her adoring and it is not overdone, so you don’t get annoyed with her childlike responses to fear and unknown things.

Also a lot of the things mentioned in the other books make another appearance, like for example Iko wanting a real body and dr. Erland wishing he had not given up his Crescent Moon.

To give you my favorite scene of this book, it is the one where most of the cast in reunited in dr. Erlands hotelroom in Kufra. There is really the feeling of like ‘WTF’ and ‘what’s going on?’. I really like that scene for the feeling it gave me. Cress is making a fuss because she does not recognise Wolf, only his tattoo, also not dr. Erland. And Carswell, who is not being able to see anything, is still trying to fight. It is just so funny.

Speaking of which, Carwell is in this novel mostly the prince from Rapunzel, he also looses his eye sight because of thorns – or birds, depending on which version you read.
