Poor little rich girl’s fallen in love with the Republic’s most famous criminal
This is the second time I read Legend by Marie Lu. The first time was when I was really into dystopians and now, years later. I do have to say I liked it better this time.

Synopsis
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.
I give Legend by Marie Lu four out of five hearts. Because I liked it, but was not amazed by it. Right before this I read An Ember in the Ashes and they start sort of similar and this pushed me to read Legend.
I liked the story, there were only a couple of elements that are getting old and maybe it was this why I did not like it all that much last time I read this novel. The story plays in an interesting dystopian society, because not much has changed from the one we have now, only more murder on people with a lower IQ than average.
Day’s background story is pretty interesting, because he does sound smart even though he failed his test at the age of 10. Which brought him into the situation he is in by the start of the novel. During the story we get to know him as a caring person even though he has problems trusting people who do not need him. And in a way he never falls for June.
June has grown up in this society of which she thinks she knows everything about. And when her world get turned upside down, she deals with it pretty well, maybe too well. It felt not a 100% real in how she deals with it. Also her trust in the rebellion after she find out what is really going on is too fast.
I I liked An Ember in the Ashes better than Legend by Marie Lu, but this does not make it a bad book and so I am moving on to Prodigy and see how Day and June fair away from their own city.
