Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but in fact, she’s one of Quadara’s most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadara’s most enlightened region, Eonia. Varin runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadara’s queens dead.
With no other choices and on the run from Keralie’s former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nation’s four dead queens.
I give Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte five out of five hearts because it was a super great read. It took me for a spin because I had not expected where it would go.
The story was surprising and it kept me hooked from the beginning. I wanted to know where it was going to go and I was confused in a good way. The read make me feel super good as I tried to puzzled what was really going on. I had a certain expectation of what was going on and it was something completely different.
The main characters are super interesting and real individuals. I loved Keralie, she was badass and curious. She cares about the queens and that makes the reader care. She was a great main character. The queens were also interesting, but could have been delved into a little more.
I hope Astrid will bring out something more soon, because this novel was great and I want more like this.
Overall Four Dead Queens is a great mystery novel and I would love to read more by Astrid Scholte.
