Book Review: Happily Ever After

Only a true friend would try to get someone she cared about to become princess over herself

I wanted to finish off reading of The Selection series by reading the novellas and everything else I could find to hopefully crank my opinion of The Selection series up a little bit. It didn’t change anything for me though.

Book Review: Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass

Rating:

Title & Author: Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass
Genre: Dystopia, Romance
Release Date: October 13 2015
Series: The Selection
Publisher: HarperCollins

Synopsis

This book contains the novellas The Queen, The Prince, The Guard and The Favorite.
It also contains a couple of chapters from The Selection from Celeste’s POV, a bonus scene from The One, an epilogue on the first part of the series and a ‘Where are they now?’ piece on the characters of the first part of the series. The book is beautifully illustrated and a map.

The Queen tells about Maxon’s parents’ Selection.
The Prine tells the story of the first day of The Selection from Maxon’s POV.
The Guard tells the story of Aspen after he is made guard in the palace.
The Favorite tells the story of Marlee and Carter from when they fall in love to after they were caught.

I give Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass three hearts out of five. This is because basically everything in this novel except for The Favorite got three hearts. I loved The Favorite a lot though, but the rest I did not care for all that much.

Reading The Guard, The Prince, the bonus scene from The One and The Selection from Celeste’s POV were a struggle. I felt like they didn’t add anything to those parts of the novels, just more confusion and such.

I liked the ‘Where are they now?’ piece. These are the things I like to know when I read a novel and is not always answered. This could have been something that could have been at in The One publishing already.

Overall I feel most of this book could have been in other books already and it didn’t need to be a separate book.
