Book Review: Honor Bound by Ann Aguirre & Rachel Caine

How can any Elder know my private heart or understand what I need?

With the release of Honor Lost I wanted to catch up on the series. So I reread Honor Among Thieves and read Honor Bound for the first bound. It was a pretty good read.

Synopsis

Zara Cole was a thief back on Earth, but she’s been recently upgraded to intergalactic fugitive. On the run after a bloody battle in a covert war that she never expected to be fighting, Zara, her co-pilot Beatriz, and their Leviathan ship Nadim barely escaped the carnage with their lives. Now Zara and her crew of Honors need a safe haven, far from the creatures who want to annihilate them. But with two wounded Leviathan to treat, plus human and non-human refugees to help, they’ll have to settle for the nearest outpost, called the Sliver: a wild, dangerous warren of alien criminals. Zara’s skills from the Zone may be invaluable. However, Zara discovers that the secrets of the Sliver may have the power to turn the tide of the war they left behind—but in the wrong direction. Soon Zara will have to make a choice: stand against the ultimate evil or run from it. But she’s never walked away from a fight.

I give Honor Bound by Ann Aguirre & Rachel Caine four out of five hearts because I really loved it but I thought it was a little annoyed with the inclusion of the romance between Zara and Beatriz and Nadim. I felt it wasn’t necessary.

I loved Zara again, but I really didn’t care that much for the romance she is building up with Nadim. It felt unnecessary and when Beatriz was pulled into it, it was even worse. But I did like Zara’s sass. Due to her background she is so suited for this travel

Beatriz was a bit more developed, which made it very nice. It made me understand her better and did not feel as far from me as it did during the first book.

The minor characters of Chao Xing and Marko got a bigger role in this book and I really enjoyed that. It felt a bit random in the beginning but they were actually useful.

Overall there was a lot of information flying around. This was done in a very good way and didn’t feel like it was just thrown in. And the story was very diverse, which was a point I was a bit worried about for this book. I really enjoyed this story, it was a great addition to Honor Among Thieves. But the end… It was a cliffhanger and I was very glad I waited and could just move on, but I have started to dislike cliffhangers .

It’s a great novel and I really needed to move on to Honor Lost.
