Book Review: Stars Above by Marissa Meyer

That mechanic was going to change everything

I was very hesitant to start on Stars Above by Marissa Meyer, because I had read Fairest a few days ago and found it very disappointing.

Synopsis

The enchantment continues….

The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories—and secrets—that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?

**The Little Android**: A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles.
**Glitches**: In this prequel to Cinder, we see the results of the plague play out, and the emotional toll it takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch….
**The Queen’s Army**: In this prequel to Scarlet, we’re introduced to the army Queen Levana is building, and one soldier in particular who will do anything to keep from becoming the monster they want him to be.
**Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky**: Thirteen-year-old Carswell Thorne has big plans involving a Rampion spaceship and a no-return trip out of Los Angeles.
**The Keeper**: A prequel to the Lunar Chronicles, showing a young Scarlet and how Princess Selene came into the care of Michelle Benoit.
**After Sunshine Passes By**: In this prequel to Cress, we see how a nine-year-old Cress ended up alone on a satellite, spying on Earth for Luna.
**The Princess and the Guard**: In this prequel to Winter, we see a game called The Princess
**The Mechanic**: In this prequel to Cinder, we see Kai and Cinder’s first meeting from Kai’s perspective.
**Something Old, Something New**: In this epilogue to Winter, friends gather for the wedding of the century…

The Keeper

The Keeper was one of the stories I was wishing for back when I was reading Scarlet. It was sort of funny and informative. It also gave me more insight on what happened between Michelle Benoit and her Lunar lover.

Glitches

Glitches is more funny then The Keeper, it gives us insight on the family Lin. It was funny, even though the Lin girls are a bit whinny.

The Queen’s Army

I think this is the most interesting story of all the novellas. It is about how Z gets to become one of the monsters in Levana’s army. I liked it and it was very insightful to Ze’ev.

Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky

It was nice to finally read something from Carswell’s perspective on what happened during his incident with a girl and her port-screen. It was informative to get deep into Carswell’s mind on why he behaved a certain way.

After Sunshine Passes By

In a way I felt this story was cute, but after a while it got annoying to get such a sweet story. It is not all fun and happiness during this story and in a way I was glad to hear how Cress got to her satellite, but I just got bored with Cress’ perkiness. It is better when her perkiness is switched around with the others.

The Princess and the Guard

Out of all I disliked The Princess and the Guard the least, because it was about Winter and overall I like her the least. It was interesting to read on how she got to not using her ability anymore, because it was not completely clear during Winter why she did.

The Little Android

This story felt a bit out of the blue, the only known character in this one is Cinder, when she was still a mechanic. I thought initially it would be about Iko, a made up story of hers, but it was not, just a random android. Felt a bit like a waste..

The Mechanic

It was fun to read the same scene from the first book, but this time from Kai’s perspective, it did not add much for me, since it had been a while since I read Cinder, but nothing against it.

Something Old, Something New

I loved this novella. It was so cute on how Scarlet wanted a small wedding, but the media is not letting them alone and so it is a freak fest and Wolf then arranging to marry earlier then planned with all their friends present. I am not a romantic person, but this is so cute!
