Synopsis

The first day of senior year:

Everything is about to change. Until this moment, Sal has always been certain of his place with his adoptive gay father and their loving Mexican-American family. But now his own history unexpectedly haunts him, and life-altering events force him and his best friend, Samantha, to confront issues of faith, loss, and grief.

Suddenly Sal is throwing punches, questioning everything, and discovering that he no longer knows who he really is—but if Sal’s not who he thought he was, who is he?

I give The Inexplicable Logic of my Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz five out of five hearts. I loved it again. Benjamin is really great for a romance novel that is are not overly romantic.

Salvator is a great guy raised by his (step)dad, they are both so loving towards each other. His father is gay and he is bullied for it, but his father only gets a boyfriend by the end of the novel. And Sal himself is strayed and missing his mother.

His friend Samantha doesn’t have a great life either, but usually worse then Sal’s. A lot happens to both of these youngsters and they stay together as the best friends in the world.

I love Benjamin’s writing and he writes such beautiful worlds which are not perfect. I am going to try and read more books by this author.
