Book Review: Girl Online Series by Zoe Sugg

I had no idea GirlOnline would take off the way it has

I was reading series for the Series Crackdown readathon and this was one of the series I tried my hands on. It was an okay series, but could have used a lot more polishing work.

Synopsis

Penny has a secret.

Under the alias GirlOnline, she blogs about school dramas, boys, her mad, whirlwind family – and the panic attacks she’s suffered from lately. When things go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets the gorgeous, guitar-strumming Noah. Suddenly Penny is falling in love – and capturing every moment of it on her blog.

But Noah has a secret too. One that threatens to ruin Penny’s cover – and her closest friendship – forever.

I give Girl Online series by Zoe Sugg three out of five hearts because it was sort of interesting, but it also felt a lot like the series was meant for much younger audience.

The series was sort of funny, but it also had life lessons in there that a young adult already needs to know. Which didn’t help with my impression of this book being for a much younger audience.

Penny is fifteen at the beginning of the series and she behaves like it, but knows so little of the world and some of the things that happen to her seem like they come out of no where even though she says she has always been clumsy etc. Why did she only feel humiliated when her best friend puts a video of her online in her nickers? I mean, if her friend was such a person why only do it now? There would have been so many more opportunities.

Noah seems vague and was a warning light from the beginning to me. Also his grandmother was weird. How did she not warn the pair about what kind of consequences their dating could have. Or anything like this. She knew about the deal to have Noah and the other singer dating, but allows him to date someone different and doesn’t expect everything to go horribly wrong! What kind of woman is she and how did she get custody over these two children?

I wished there was more information on Noah’s background because I thought that part was interesting. That is why I think that the story during the following two books goes down a whole bunch. Everything I liked about Girl Online was gone in On Tour and Going Solo.

Overall Girl Online is a fun series to read but don’t take it too seriously when you are a young adult, because you don’t learn too much from it. The series is okay and easy to read.
